Pin Trading has its roots at the Olympic games, where badges were given out to the athletes and representatives from various countries in the late 19th century. After the turn of the century, the first pin specifically designed in the colors of a particular country for its contestants was debuted by the Swedish team.
In 1924, athletes first began exchanging pins as a goodwill gesture among their peers. Pin trading was kept primarily within the ranks of athletes and officials until the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and the Summer Games of 1984 in Los Angeles. At these events, pin trading truly burst upon the scene and became a mainstream hobby among the general public.
The ability to collect fun and visually appealing momentos that also contain stories and fond memories translates perfectly to Little League Baseball, where many children have their first experiences in teamwork and comraderie outside a classroom.
The biggest day of any World Series tournament is the “Pin Trading Day“, when teams from across the country meet to swap pins and form friendships they will remember for a lifetime. By the time players graduate from Little League Baseball, their pin collection may number in the thousands. Years later, a certain pin can still spark a memory of a particular player or game that would otherwise be lost to time.

AAA outfielder Josh Womack demonstrates his crazy bat skills at Long Beach Armada 2009 Training Camp. Womack’s ability to swing the bat around and catch it again are only surpassed the his sharp wit. More and more little league teams are wrapping up their trading pin designs and getting their baseball pins and softball pins underway! Make sure your team is not left out during pin trading day this season by getting your pins started soon!
Here are some teams that have finalized their custom trading pins during the last week.
The Ramblers Baseball Club uses classic red, white and blue colors for their team, which provides a great darker toned backdrop for their team name and ram mascot. This really allows the mascot to stand out as the focal point of the trading pin.
The Baltimore Mustangs used a great mascot for a trading pin - strong, bold lines which provide a clean and clear image with a minimum of fine lines or small areas which are difficult to translate to the finished trading pins.
The Keller Knights baseball team chose to use a polished silver metal pin base to accent the royal blue and black colors in their custom trading pin design. The white outline around the team name helps to accentuate this information and provide a buffer between the black text and blue state background.
The Tampa Terminators wanted their trading pins to stand out from the crowd, so they opted to include blinker eyes in the terminator skull on their baseball trading pins. The black state of Florida and the gray and silver tones of the terminator itself really create a great focal point from the red blinkers.
The Dallas Colts used a dangler to include the year on their trading pins, which allows the pins to gain value during pin trading sessions. Including this pin option also means that any remaining pins can have the dangler swapped out for a 2010 next year, potentially saving the team some hard-earned fundraiser money.

This year, it seems many baseball and softball teams are understandably waiting until much later in the year to finalize their trading pin orders. This may cause a longer than usual wait time later into July, as everyone rushes to place their custom pin orders at the same time.
How does that benefit you and your team? By getting your trading pins underway early, you can significantly reduce the amount of time it will take for your baseball team or softball team to get their customized trading pins!

The Hoover Hammerheads used a pinstripe on the background of their baseball trading pin to break up the open space while keeping a clean and uncluttered appearance. The shark logo turning and becoming part of the team name is a great way to tie both together as the centerpiece of a trading pin.
The Keller Aces baseball team used a silver metal on their custom pins, accenting the darker blue color in their team colors very well. The polished silver will also allow their baseball trading pins to be much more reflective in direct light or sunlight, really helping their baseball pin to stand out from the crowd.
The custom trading pin designed by the Plantation Stars makes use of custom cutouts to give their pin a open, more 3-D look and feel. Rather than using a fill color in the area between their logo and the outer circle of baseballs, they chose to have this space hand cut out of the mold.
The Houston Angels incorporated their logo into a trading pin layout worthy of a professional sports team. The angular background with the crisp lines behind the bold logo and text on the custom pin helps to really make the information jump off the pin!
Trading Pin Factory is happy to announce a new special offer running through the end of May. With every order of custom trading pins over 500 pieces, we will include two trading pin collector bags FREE!

Head’s up Little League and softball teams! The competition for the best trading pins at this year’s baseball and fastpitch tournaments is heating up! Spotlighted below are some of the pins ordered this week.
The West Boca Panthers designed an eye-popping trading pin with their panther bursting out of a “P”, with a glitter effect inside the letter. The baseball bat barrel and handle extending outside the background helps to add a nice shape to the trading pin as well.
The Titans Baseball Club took a non-traditional approach with including player names and numbers in their baseball trading pin. By having baseball bats extending down from the team name, they were able to place the names inside the bat barrels and cap each end with a baseball containing the player’s number.
The Littleton Falcons created a classic trading pin design with the large, striking baseball in the background, and a very bold, tough-looking falcon mascot as the centerpiece. The bright colors and large, strong lettering helps make this baseball pin stand out in a crowd while not being overly gaudy. Including “2009″ in with the grain of the bat makes it noticeable but also understated and is a very nice touch.
The Litchfield Arsenal baseball pin combines many smaller elements into a great trading pin with lots of action. Utilizing several smaller images that contain less detail but are easily recognizable can be even more effective than a single larger mascot or logo when done right!
The Navajo Allstars have a great trading pin design that is cut to shape around the large city location and the Indian spear, creating a sleek, organic design. This is a perfect example of how a baseball pin or softball pin does not have to contain a large amount of elements to create a beautiful and eye-catching trading pin.
